Something exciting is happening at Cardinal Valley!
Filmmaker Meredith Ludwig is creating a documentary about the restoration of Webb City’s reclaimed mining lands. Over the past months, she and her editor, Aaron Phillips, have walked Cardinal Valley trails with us, filming wildlife, capturing local interviews, and sharing the personal stories of Webb City residents.
The film highlights how nearly 1,000 acres of once-mined land are healing—turning waste back into healthy soil that supports native plants, pollinators, and wildlife while saving municipal resources. It’s a model for communities everywhere and shows how thoughtful restoration can benefit both nature and people.
The documentary is approaching completion with a planned premiere in Webb City in June 2026. We’re proud that this local story has the potential to reach audiences far beyond our city, inspiring other communities to explore similar restoration efforts.
