Earth Day Sustainability Conference
What it is: Join Missouri Southern State University for the Earth Day Sustainability Conference, a community and campus event focused on environmental education and action. The morning features a series of engaging talks on topics such as water quality, recycling, sustainability practices, and community-led conservation efforts, along with educational booths from regional organizations and partners. Friends of Cardinal Valley will participate with an outreach booth sharing the story of habitat restoration at Cardinal Valley Habitat Restoration Area and ways the community can get involved. What it is: Join us for World Migratory Bird Day at the Cardinal Valley Habitat Restoration Area in Webb City, Missouri on May 9, 2026 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. We will walk the new Joplin Trail Coalition trail through this former mining landscape that is gradually returning to functioning wildlife habitat. Spring migration is underway, and birds moving through the area make each visit a little different. Friends of Cardinal Valley will be along the route to share observations and help point out bird activity as we walk. Binoculars and cameras are welcome. Migration often brings surprises, even among familiar species. This is a natural site with uneven terrain, so please wear appropriate footwear. Park at trailhead: Recycling and Limb Drop Off entrance, 2100 N. Madison St., Webb City, MO.

What it is: Join us for the premiere of Cardinal Valley: A Restoration Story, a documentary that showcases the transformation of former mining land in Webb City, Missouri, into a thriving natural habitat. (Cardinal Valley Documentary) Location: Route 66 Movie Theater, 24 S. Main Street, Webb City, MO.
